McFarlane Halo 5 Guardians Figures Series 1 Up for Order!

Sharp-eyed readers may have noticed that amidst my coverage of New York Toy Fair 2015, there wasn’t a single article about McFarlane Toys Halo figures this year. No, that wasn’t an oversight–the McFarlane Toys booth was just an epic disappointment at the 2015 Toy Fair. I feared we were in for another year with just one or two new figures–but I was wrong! Just one month after Toy Fair, McFarlane Toys has now officially revealed the case ratios for Halo 5 Series 1, and the Halo 5 Guardians Series 1 figures are now up for order!

McFarlane Halo 5 Guardians Figures Series 1

Coming to XBox One this Fall, “Halo 5: Guardians” looks to inject some fresh blood and excitement into the Halo franchise–and Halo collectors are definitely hoping that the release of Halo 5 will help to reinvigorate the Halo collectibles market as well!

Unfortunately, McFarlane Toys is not yet allowed to reveal three of the six new figures that will be in Halo 5: Guardians Wave 1, but they were able to share the identities of the first three figures, as well as the case ratios for the assortment…

The McFarlane Toys Halo 5 Guardians Series 1 case ratios are as follows:

(4) Spartan Locke
(2) Halo Master Chief with Assault Rifle and Magnum
(1) Athlon Spartan (Gold/Steel) with Assault Rifle and Magnum
(1) Spartan #2
(1) Spartan #3
(1) Spartan #5

Seeing as how the Spartan Athlon armor permutation is basically the only new Spartan armor that we’ve seen (as it first appeared in the Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta event), I’m not at all surprised to see it turn up in the first assortment of Halo 5 McFarlane Toys figures. It’s not nearly my favorite armor ever, but at this point, I’ll be delighted to get any new Halo action figure!

Halo 5 Athlon Spartan Armor Permutation ScreenshotI’m a little bit confused about the solicitation text that McFarlane Toys sent out, as it states “Series 1 includes Master Chief, a rising star in the UNSC ranks – Spartan Locke, as well as some exciting Spartans and classic characters from the Halo universe.”

I’m not entirely sure who those other “classic characters”would be, as the case ratios include only Spartans and I don’t believe we’ve seen any other named Spartans in the Halo video games that would be relevant to release as part of a Halo 5 series. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what McFarlane Toys has up their sleeves!

But while details regarding the other Spartans figures won’t be announced until a later date, at least we do know that these figures will be in the same scale as the Halo 4 figures and will feature the usual 25+ points of articulation. In addition, just like the Halo 4 figures, every McFarlane Toys Halo 5 Guardians figure will include an exclusive DLC code for Halo 5 Guardians downloadable content!

I’d never buy an action figure just for a DLC code, but if inspires others to do so, then that’s great for McFarlane Toys (and the Halo collecting sphere as a whole).

Halo 5 Spartan Locke ScreenshotHalo 5 Guardians Series 1 figures are now available individually through EE, although it’s obviously going to be hard to choose which figures to order when we don’t even know who half the figures are yet. I went ahead and pre-ordered an entire set anyway, as I’ll want whatever figures are released, but I don’t imagine many collectors will be an hardcore about these as I am.

What do you think of the first series of McFarlane Halo 5 figures, Halo fans? Are you bummed to see that the first wave is composed entirely of Spartans, or excited by the fact that we’re getting six new Halo figures this summer period?

McFarlane Halo 5 Guardians Figures Series 1 Up for Order! — 24 Comments

  1. Well it’s nice to see that McFarlane have something to show, or at least half of a series to show for Halo 5.
Quite disappointed to see that it’s all just Spartans for the moment. Who knows upon release when we’ll hear news of a 2nd series (Halo 4 all over again).
My only 2 hopes for this line is that series 2 gets some Elites (Arbiter and others) and that there’s finally a new Deluxe Hunter figure.

    • I was thinking of the Hunter! Halo 4 had two deluxe figures and a deluxe set, as well as box sets, so maybe Halo 5 will have the same?

  2. The ups: . Locke being in the line this early (love his armor and his character is alright)
. Having a multiplayer Spartan that is wearing a new set of armor keeps it from
feeling like just another Halo 4 Spartan
. Having multiple weapons is a huge positive because you already have so many
more display options as soon as you remove the figure from the card

    The downs: . Only Spartans
. DLC this early on means it’s locked off on the disk and isn’t truly new content
. The hip problem from Halo 4 carries on into Halo 5: Guardians
. the Master Chief’s shoulders are still too low-set when compared to in-game

Overall, not a bad group of figures. Definitely curious of what’s to come with the other Spartans in this series. But I do have to ask this: With the 3rd series of Halo 4 figures being recently announced, will they be sold alongside the Halo 5: Guardians figures? Since the cards simply say “Halo” on the new Halo 4 figures, I can only assume. But if that’s the case, why call it “series 3” and have the Halo 5: Guardians figures be called “series 1”? So many questions…

    • To answer some of your questions quickly:

DLC will be probably something like with Halo4 – some new skins for weapons/armor.
Hip problem? Sure, articulation could be always improved but I don’t see Halo4 figures having this problem. The figures look nice, and articulation is much better than Reach figures.
Master Chief’s shoulders won’t be changed – if you look closely you’ll see this is the same figure as Halo4, they changed only the chest armor piece so it’s not damaged anymore. If they moved the shoulder pads any higher it could hinder the articulation.

As for the Halo4 Series 3 (Spartan Ops characters Palmer, Jul and Throne + Spartan Soldier repaint), this series is out for a month already. It means, it’s available now (check in stores, it should be on shelves already). I myself have these figures for 3 weeks.
Halo5 Series1 will be hitting stores between July-September.

  3. This looks nice. I hope we get a Nightfall armour Spartan. Wish the Arbiter was in wave one, that kinda sucks. :/ Hopefully they will have some Campaign guys coming out! I much prefer them over multiplayer. But for all I know the other Spartans could be Fred, Kelly and Linda, so I won’t complain! (Or Buck and Romeo? 😉 )

  4. I wonder when the game will release. If the game comes out in November and the toys (with DLC) in August that seems like a while to hold on to codes.

Anyway I hope we get Arbiter in series 2, or maybe there will be a series 1 wave 2 like with Halo 4 that releases closer to the game.

  5. I only collects Spartans, so that’s fine with me! I’m looking forward to picking up the whole set too!

Am I the only one crazy enough to still hope that ODST Romeo will see the production run someday?

    • I desperately hope that we someday get a Romeo figure in some form. McFarlane Toys MUST be aware that they screwed up missing that character.

  6. “Each series brings fans new and fan-favorite characters, weapons, and accessories from all the Halo games, and even “expanded universe” sources such as the Halo live action series, novels, comic books, and animations to your collection.”

We never got anything that was explicitly from a Live Action series, novel or comic.

    • They could be talking about characters like Fred, Kelly, and the Didact who originated or are primarily from EU sources? Or that means we could get some EU Halo figures soon. 😀

      • Fred, Kelly and Linda are actually back after Halo4 (SPOILER: if you read the comic Halo:Escalation, you’ll see them reunited with Chief).

As for the Didact – we already gotten him as a figure with Halo4 line, so it would be pointless to re-release dead character.

I hope we get new Arbiter figure.

  7. …They still don’t have a full range of motion on their legs, huh? At least we’re getting something from Mcfarlane. I remember the glory days of the Halo Reach line, with a new wave every four months. Now that I think about it, one of the major reasons why the Halo 4 line was so small (and probably the Halo 5 line will be as well) is the armor designs. Back in Reach, the armor designs were tamer and more modular looking; this was reflected with the figures through the detachable armor thing they had going. When you get down to it, popping off the helmet, chestplate, and shoulder pads revealed that all the spartans had near-identical molds. Then Halo 4 had the wacky, alien-looking (I’m partial to the “mechanized power rangers” nickname) armor sets that were radically different from each other, causing Mcfarlane to scale back and make 100% new molds for each set.

But enough blabbering and reminiscing, on to the actual figures!
It’s… another Master Chief figure. Looks about the same as the Halo 4 one, so low priority.
Locke, I have no real attachment to. I’ve only seen ten seconds of Nightfall, and that was from skipping through the first episode to unlock the Halo 5 beta. His prototype looks very dull; correct me if I’m wrong, but there appears to be no visor detail on it, and his actual armor is silver, compared to the gunmetal gray of the figure shown.
Athlon armor I had no idea existed until I opened this page. It looks like a combination of Mjolnir Mark VI, Mjolnir Mark IV, and HAZOP armor from Reach; basically, simplistic and utilitarian. That color scheme, though; definitely going to have to get that one. Hope it comes with a DMR, seeing as the AR is the Chief’s signature weapon, and what art we’ve seen has shown Locke wielding a BR.

And last thought: they’ll come with download codes? They’d have to be purely armor skins or XBL awards like themes and avatar gear. …Unless there will be a part of matchmaking with custom loadouts, which I don’t find unlikely, not in the least bit because the Halo 5 beta was officially the “Halo 5 ARENA Beta”.

  8. For all we know, the other “Spartans” might not be spartans, they could be other characters as well, and the name spartan is just a temporary title. I’d love to see the Arbiter in his new armor in figure form, personally.

  9. Hey Dabid, will you be reviewing the Halo 4 series 3 figures? They have been released and I would love to see you review them, thanks.

  10. To answer some of your questions quickly:

  11. Are you ever planning on reviewing Halo figures again? I still remember you saying you would eventually get to reviewing McFarlane’s Didact, but that never came, and it’s been downhill since. Many awesome figures worthy of reviews have come out since 2013, including NECA’s awesome 18″ John-117 and that brand new 12″ Play Arts Kai Halo 2: Anniversary Master Chief. I would say even McFarlane’s Halo 4 Series 3 line deserves some reviews, though admittedly not as much as some of these awesome bigger figures. Do you ever plan to review again?

    • Yep! In fact, my Halo 4 Series 3 figures just came in the mail this weekend. Even though the figures have been “out” for a while, they haven’t been distributed well at all. I’ve never seen them in my part of the country–I had to order them online.

  12. I believe the other three will be a mix of Chief and Locke’s squad from the campaign

  13. I don’t think this series of halo toys is in scale with halo 4 toys, yeah every toy website I go tom it always says the Spartans are 6″ tall also the pics with Spartan Locke next to potatoe sack Chief really shows he’s a bit taller so yee I’m all confused N stuff..

  14. Maybe “Spartans” is just a placement name to avoid revealing any spoilers about Halo 5 Guardians?
And considering the fact that most of the Halo series except for a few usually always has at least two, if not three, enemies plus a deluxe, and that the gameplay trailee was released a day ago, I have a feeling that two of them are probably going to be that new forerunner enemy, a jackal, and the third being either a member of Osiris or Blue Team (I put my money on Buck)
    You never know.
