Halo Mega Bloks 2016 Dual Mode UNSC Warthog Set Photos!

Among the very slim picking at the 2016 Toy Fair Mattel Collector Event Halo Mega Bloks showings was a new Dual-Mode UNSC Warthog set, which had the gimmicky ability to switch between having its turret either be a Gauss Cannon or a Rocket Launcher. I had imagined that this set wouldn’t be arriving until summer 2016, as MEGA Brands tends to only release winter and summer sets–but I thought wrong! The Dual Mode UNSC Warthog Mega Bloks set has now been fully-revealed and released!

Considering that McFarlane Toys made their own 6″ scale UNSC Warthog over half a decade ago with the capability of interchangeable turret types, I was wondering when MEGA Brands would get around to using this concept themselves. And that question has now been answered: right now!

But MEGA Brands has done McFarlane Toys one better, because the newest Mega Bloks Warthog comes with an Upgrade Pack that not only changes the turret from a Gauss Cannon to a Rocket Launcher, but also adds new guardrails and a killer bumper to the Warthog, making this almost unquestionably the most loaded and impressive UNSC Warthog Mega Bloks set released to-date.

Mega Bloks Halo Dual Mode Warthog Set Box BackSeveral of the Spring/Summer 2016 Halo Mega Bloks sets are coming with unique named characters figures, but this set isn’t one of them. Instead, this set will include two generic multiplayer Spartans: a light tan Spartan Hermes figure (using the Kelly figure mold, obviously) and a light tan UNSC Spartan War Hammer figure. The Spartan Hermes figure is clearly a repaint, but I believe this is the first Spartan War Hammer armor permutation to make it into circulation.

(And yes, I know “War Hammer” is not a real armor and this is meant to be the Spartan “War Master” armor–don’t tell me, tell Mattel. I have to go with what’s officially on the box.)

The set comes with two handheld guns for the Spartans to wield. One of the weapons is a Magnum, while the other… I can’t quite see clearly. I’m sure somebody with better eyes than me can make it out, but to me it looks like a black blob. I’m guessing it’s a UNSC Hydra Launcher based off of the basic shape, but chime in here and correct me if I’m mistaken, sharper-eyed Halo fans.

Halo Mega Bloks Dual Mode Warthog Set New York Toy Fair 2016For those who want to see the set in hi-res, I’ve uploaded the Mattel Halo Press Release photo of the UNSC Dual-Mode Warthog above. You don’t get to see the Upgrade Pack in action in this image, obviously, but it does give a very clear look at the figures and decals on the grey camouflaged Warthog. (And hey, now I can see that that gun is actually a Hydra Launcher after all! Go figure!)

The 31846 Mega Bloks Halo Dual-Mode Warthog set has now arrived in the United States, and should be reaching store distribution levels within the next few weeks. I vastly overpaid for this set, paying ToyWiz.com $44.99 for a 303 piece set with a $29.99 MSRP, but I just couldn’t bring myself to wait. Unless you’re super-impatient for new sets like I am, I wouldn’t recommend doing the same. I’ll post a review of this set once it arrives.

Now that we’ve seen the box and all that the Halo Mega Bloks 2016 Dual Mode Warthog has to offer, what do you think of the set, Halo collectors? Is there room in your collection for one more Warthog vehicle, or are you all Warthog-ed out at this point?

  1. To be honest, I’m just sitting here crying because there are no decent Linda figures. Hell, I’d even prefer a Megabloks one over the regular Mattel variant.

    • Mega Brands knows that we’re missing Linda. I can’t imagine she’s not coming later in the year.

      • Well, I’ve been feeling neglected this far, so I really hope that will happen. Maybe they don’t like her helmet :p

      • Also, do you think it’s likely or even possible whatsoever that we’ll see something that’s more “Collectible” in terms of figures, that’s not either Chief or Locke?

          • Well, as in of the Artfx+ price class, kinda? Though anything with more detail and accuracy than the Mattel ones(Which frankly all looked a bit too much toy and plasticy) would count I suppose.

          • Unknown. Mattel holds the master Halo license now, so they would have to ALLOW companies to make high-end Halo collectibles again. And if companies didn’t want to make many of those collectibles before, there’s even less incentive now that Mattel will want a cut of any profits as well…

          • Yeah, I was expecting bad news like that. Anyway, thanks for answering! 😀

  2. Couldn’t you switch the turrets on previous warthogs already?

Not a fan of tan spartans and the rocket turret looks odd so i’ll probably give this a miss unless i find it half price like the last warthog i bought.

Also is that supposed to be war master armour because i have never heard of war hammer and it looks like war master. if it is war master i hope we get it in another set soon or mystery pack as i quite like the armour in the game

    • Yes, you could switch the turrets on past Warthogs, but that would require buying multiple iterations of the Warthog in different sets. This set comes with different turrets.

As for that certain armor, well… the packaging calls it the “War Hammer” armor, so that’s its official name in this set. It certainly does look like the War Master armor, though, doesn’t it? Don’t ask me.

      • Yeah good point it’s nice to have the two turret options in one box
Hmm that armour name is odd, is it possible these are old pics from maybe concept stage and they changed the name for proper release?

        • Naw, these aren’t concept boxes–you can tell Toywiz took photos of the actual sets because no official images were available. The armor name is either a type-o or some sort of copyright problem with the War Master name.

  3. I love the color scheme and overall roughness of the hog. But I definitely prefer the spade rush set over this. Being a fan of anything Halo Reach and never had a spade, and with the new COOL colors of that vehicle is a must for me, and of course, the brute chopper with Kat 😀

  4. Does anybody else notice the hanging hook on the front of the Warthog? Does this Warthog have an actual working winch? Cause that’d be great
