Play Arts Kai Halo 2 Anniversary Master Chief Figure Pre-Order!

If you’re a Halo Play Arts Kai collector, 2014 was a complete and utter bust. That’s not to say that the Halo figures Square-Enix released in 2014 were bad–that would actually be preferable to the actual situation, which is that not a single new Square-Enix Play Arts Kai action figure was released this year. Thankfully, things are already looking up for next year, as the first (and hopefully not only) Halo Play Arts Kai 2015 figure is getting ready to deploy: the huge 11″ Halo 2 Anniversary Edition Play Arts Kai Master Chief figure is now up for order!

Square-Enix has really been slacking off this year with the Halo license, and I was beginning to lose confidence that they actually intended to continue making new Halo Play Arts Kai figures. Luckily, that is not the case, as we now know the price and release date for the Halo Play Arts Kai Master Chief Halo 2 Anniversary Edition figure!

Alright, first let’s talk about the (UNSC) Elephant in the room: Yes, this is “just another” Master Chief action figure. That said, this is an amazing representation of the Master Chief as he appeared in Halo 2.

The McFarlane Toys Halo 2 Master Chief figure is pretty decent for $13-$15 and all, but the Square Enix Halo 2 Anniversary Edition Master Chief Play Arts Kai figure destroys that figure in size, sculpting, accessories, packaging, paint deco–it’s a superior figure in absolutely every way. This is the definitive Halo 2 Master Chief action figure.

Halo 2 Play Arts Kai Master Chief Accessories Energy Sword SMGsThis time out, Square-Enix gives us some terrific weapons for our Play Arts Master Chief. We get the long-awaited Play Arts Kai Energy Sword, along with two M7 sub machine guns, a sturdy figure stand and five interchangeable hands for the Chief.

Master Chief Play Arts Kai Halo 2 Anniversary Edition Figure Dual-Wielding SMGsDual-wielding was an amazing innovation when it appeared in Halo 2 (an innovation I’ve deeply missed in recent Halo games), and it plasters a big ol’ smile on my face to see a pair of SMGs packed in with the Halo 2 Chief.

Square-Enix Play Arts Kai Halo 2 Anniversary Edition Master Chief Figure with Energy SwordMeanwhile, the Play Art Kai Covenant Energy Sword is huge, highly-detailed, and looks totally deadly. In short, it’s the Energy Sword that we’ve been waiting for from Square-Enix all these years!

Play Arts Kai Master Chief Halo 2 Anniversary Edition FigureThe Halo 2 Play Arts Kai Master Chief 11″ figure is now available for order, and is scheduled to ship out in February 2015. Considering how ridiculously expensive the Halo 4 Master Chief Play Arts Kai figure has gotten on the aftermarket, I’d make sure to snap this Chief up early if you want one without paying a fortune.

Are you impressed with Square-Enix’s latest Master Chief Play Arts Kai figure, Halo collectors? Or are you so sick to death of the Master Chief at this point that you don’t really care how good the figure looks if it’s “just” another Master Chief?

  1. So at 11 inches it’s out of scale with all the other play arts figures? This was going to be a must buy for me at the normal scale, but if the scale has changed I may reconsider.

    • I think something’s messed up in the specs they sent out. I saw Master Chief at NYCC and there’s no way he’s 11″ tall. I’m wondering if Square-Enix sent out the specs for the BOX for some reason instead of the toy.

      • Well, I hope you’re right! If it’s a different scaled figure, it would be very disappointing to me too! Since I’ve collected all the Play Arts Kai Halo figures so far (minus the variants). However, with Square Enix, you never know. I hated that they have various scales for their figures. Their Medal Of Honor figure was 11″ tall (too tall), their Lara Croft figure was 6″ tall (too short). I hate that I can’t display all my Play Arts Kai together.

  2. Sword seems a little too big for me, but still a great looking figure that I’ll most likely end up getting. It’ll go well with the other Play Art figures I have.

  3. The figure grows on you, i was going to sell mine until i actually took him out and posed him with a Joyride Halo 1 series 4 Grunt! They look amazing together! Also, i swapped weapons with the 2008 12″ Halo 3 Master Chief by McFarlane Toys to pose this H2 Chief with the 2008 H3 Chief’s Assault rifle, and gave this H2 Chief’s oversized Energy Sword to the 12″ McFarlane Chief! The swap works wonders!

For the size, i am sad to say that Square Enix did indeed change the scale to i think 1/9th? Whereas all the other PAK figures have been strictly 1/10th… So i have to pose this awesome figure away from all the others… It’s OK though, like i said the figure grows on you. Now after 3 weeks of having him out of the box and looking all BAD @$$ on my shelf next to the Joyride Grunt, i can honestly say he is my favourite of all my Chiefs!
