Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Sarah Palmer Figure Review (Square-Enix)

Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Spartan-IV Sarah Palmer Review

If there’s one character from the Halo 4 video game that fans have been demanding an action figure of more than The Didact, it’s Spartan-IV Sarah Palmer. Though we only see Sarah Palmer in cut-scenes during the Halo 4 campaign, she’s the central character of the immensely popular Halo 4 Spartan Ops and an integral part of the Halo 4 mythos. McFarlane Toys has basically dropped the ball with their Halo 4 figures line, but luckily, we’re getting a Sarah Palmer figure that’s much better instead. It’s the long-awaited and heavily-anticipated Square-Enix Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Sarah Palmer figure…

Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Master Chief Figure Review (Square-Enix)

I’m not exactly the biggest fan of the Master Chief. My entry into Halo fandom was the novels, and my first Halo video games were Halo Wars and Halo 3: ODST. So while I think the Master Chief is great and all, I wasn’t inclined to buy a $50+ high-end action figure of him. But, well–duty calls and you guys all seemed to adamantly want to hear about this figure, so I went ahead and ordered the Square-Enix Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Master Chief figure. He’s not my favorite Halo figure–or even my favorite Halo Play Arts Kai figure–but … Continue Reading →

Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Spartan Warrior Figure Review (Square-Enix)

Halo 4 Magnum Wielded by Square-Enix Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Spartan Warrior Figure

My wife got the Halo Reach Play Arts Kai Kat figure for Christmas, and while that figure was far from perfection, it was good enough that I was intrigued by the Square-Enix Halo figures line. So much so, in fact, that I decided to drop ~$60 to order one of the upcoming Halo 4 Play Arts Kai figures. I almost ordered the Master Chief, but something compelled me to pass on the Chief and order the blue Halo 4 Play Arts Kai Spartan Warrior figure instead. I’m glad I did–he’s probably the best-looking Halo Spartan action figure I’ve ever seen…

McFarlane Halo Legends The Package 3-Pack Review

McFarlane Halo Legends The Package Three-Pack Master Chief Fred Kelly Figures

I have literally waited my entire Halo fandom life to own action figures of Spartans from the Halo novels. Yes, these figures of Frederic-104 and Kelly-087 may be based on their appearance in the animated “Halo Legends: The Package”, but those characters were created first in Eric Nylund’s Halo novels–the very first Halo media of any kind I ever partook of. So just by making this Halo Legends The Package 3-Pack, McFarlane Toys has already won my undying love. Of course, it certainly helps that the Spartans action figures in this set are outstanding…

Halo Mega Bloks Snowbound UNSC Rockethog Review 97003

Halo Mega Bloks Snowbound UNSC Rockethog vs. Covenant Ghost 97003

When the Halo Mega Bloks Snowbound UNSC Rockethog was announced, I was one of the few people I saw who was vocally excited about it. For whatever reason I never picked up the Halo Mega Bloks Arctic Warthog set, so I was pretty happy to get another shot at it without having to pay secondary market prices. But then something apparently went wrong, because I watched for the set on store shelves every week for six months, and it never showed up. I was starting to give up home on owning my own Snowbound Rockethog when BA Toys came to … Continue Reading →

Halo 4 Knight Deluxe Boxed Action Figure Review (McFarlane Toys)

Halo 4 Promethean Knight Arm Blade on McFarlane Deluxe Boxed Figure

McFarlane Toys made Halo fans wait just a little bit longer for their Halo 4 Promethean Knight deluxe figure, but the big daddy of all the Forerunner A.I.s has arrived and is ready to wreak some havoc on the Master Chief! People are going to hate me for saying this, but even at a “high” suggested retail of $25-$27, this outstanding Knight figure is a total steal. Well, unless you’re really looking forward to the much-promoted ability of the Promethean Knight to store and deploy a Watcher…

Halo 4 Mega Bloks 2013 UNSC Mantis Review 97115

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Mantis 97115 with Spartan Warrior Figure

It was totally inadvertent, but it seems that I have ended up saving the best 2013 Halo Mega Bloks review for last: the UNSC Mantis 97115! The ultra-popular UNSC Mantis battle mech debuted in the Halo 4 video game, and fans have been salivating at the prospect of a toy of the Mantis since well before Halo 4 even came out! Though it was the very first Halo Mega Bloks 2013 set that MEGA Brands showed off sneak previews of, it’s among the last of the sets to hit stores. The wait for the set was a little painful, but … Continue Reading →

Halo 4 Mega Bloks 2013 Cauldron Clash Set Review 97118

I’ve been talking about the 2013 Halo Mega Bloks Cauldron Clash 97118 set for months for a reason, and that reason is that even without owning it yet, I could tell that this set was awesome. I finally got my Mega Bloks Halo 4 Cauldron Clash set in the mail earlier this week, and I couldn’t wait to put it together. The Halo Mega Bloks Cauldron Clash is an absolute can’t miss blockbuster set for Halo 4 fans (though it’s also one of the more frustrating builds I’ve done in years)…

Halo Reach Kat Play Arts Kai Action Figure Review

While many of the Halo McFarlane Toys action figures are pretty nice, sometimes you might want to spring for something a little more exquisite (and a lot more expensive). Enter Square-Enix and their Halo Play Arts Kai line of figures. If there’s one branch of Halo toys that hasn’t gotten a fair shake on this blog, it’s the Square-Enix Halo Play Arts Kai line. Not because I don’t want to cover these figures, but because they’re just so cost-prohibitive to collect with retail prices of $50-$70 each. But when my wife asked for a Halo Reach Play Arts Kai Kat … Continue Reading →

Halo 4 Mega Bloks UNSC Ammo Pack I Review 97037

When I first heard that a Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Ammo Pack was coming in 2013, visions of a package full of rare weapons danced in my head. So when we got our first of what was really included in the UNSC Ammo Pack I, I was a little underwhelmed. In fact, I was downright cold and pretty down on this set–right up until I got my own and put it together. Then, suddenly, this Halo 4 Mega Bloks set looked a whole lot slicker…

Halo Mega Bloks 2013 Covenant Drop Pod Elite General Review 97106

Although not nearly as prominent as the Halo Mega Bloks UNSC ODST Recon Specialist Drop Pod, there was another Halo Mega Bloks Drop Pod that many thought was lost forever: the Covenant Crimson Drop Pod with white Elite General. A year-plus after our first glance at the set, though, it has finally landed in fans’ collections (although I don’t know that anyone would consider this particular Covenant Drop Pod finished product to be “Crimson”)…

Halo Mega Bloks ODST Recon Specialist Drop Pod Review

It was touch and go for a while as to whether or not this set was ever going to actually come out or not, but one of the last early Halo Mega Bloks 2013 sets has arrived–the long-awaited Halo Mega Bloks ODST Recon Specialist Drop Pod 97105! It’s been a long wait since 2011 to get the set, but it’s finally here. And for fans of ONI Officer Dare or the “Halo 3: ODST” video game, this Recon Specialist Drop Pod is an absolute must-have…

Halo Mega Bloks 2013 Covenant Combat Cobalt Unit Review 97084

I reviewed the UNSC Cobalt Combat Unit earlier this year, and now it’s the Covenant’s turn to get all decked out in Cobalt blue armor–it’s the 2013 Halo Mega Bloks Covenant Combat Cobalt Unit 97084! My hopes for this set plummeted when I learned what the four figures included in it were, but the paint deco is so good that it almost makes up for this set’s shortcomings….

Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Combat Orange Unit Review 97083

When you have the hundreds of Halo Mega Bloks Spartans figures that I have, sometimes you start to wonder if you really need any more little Spartan action figures. And it’s in that moment that MEGA Brands unveils something so tantalizing that you forget you ever wondered if you needed more Halo toys. For me, that moment was when the 2013 Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Combat Orange Unit was announced. While the set doesn’t totally fulfill the ambitious hopes and dreams I had for it, it does include a couple of must-have orange Spartans for my collection, including one never-before-released … Continue Reading →

Halo Mega Bloks Covenant Spectre Ambush Review 97110

Halo Mega Bloks Covenant Spectre Ambush 97110 won the poll a few months back for the absolute most-wanted of all of the Halo Mega Bloks 2013 sets announced for the winter, so I made it my mission to get both the Covenant Spectre Ambush and the UNSC Cryo Bay 97088 as quickly as possible to provide reviews for fellow Halo fans. The Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Cryo Bay got my attention by packing some of the best features of a small-sized Mega Bloks Halo set ever, so I had similar hopes for the Covenant Spectre Ambush. While Halo Mega Bloks … Continue Reading →

Halo 4 Spartan Soldier (Orange) Series 1 Extended Figure Review

As anyone who reads this site regularly knows, I’ve got a thing for orange. So when I heard McFarlane Toys would be releasing their first Halo 4 Orange Spartan figure already as part of Halo 4 Series 1 Extended, I hit the roof (in a good way). Then when I found out the Orange Spartan Soldier was part of a ridiculously-expensive Halo 4 5-figure boxed set, I hit the roof again (in a bad way). There was never any chance I wasn’t going to buy the Halo 4 boxed set just to get the Spartan Soldier (orange) figure, but I … Continue Reading →

Halo 4 Crawler Series 1 Extended Figure Review

I was lukewarm on the Halo 4 Series 1 Extended Watcher and pretty cold toward the Cortana figure, so I figured it was time to cover a figure from McFarlane Toys’ second wave of Halo 4 toys that I’m actually mostly pleased with. That figure is another of the Forerunner AIs, the Promethean Crawler. The Halo 4 Crawler figure is decently big, full of articulation, and more than capable of washing the bad taste out of my mouth from some other recent Halo 4 figures…

Halo 4 Watcher Series 1 Extended Figure Review

Much like in the Halo 4 video game, the toy Forerunner enemies are the second to appear, following the more-familiar Covenant foes. One of three main types of Forerunners present in Halo 4, the Promethean Watcher is a highly-troublesome support unit that make the Promethean Knights far more threatening and dangerous. With the Halo 4 deluxe boxed Knight on the horizon, having a Watcher figure available for it to launch was a must. And this McFarlane Toys Watcher action figure definitely will fulfill the role of looking good and fitting into the Knight smoothly. But beyond that, well… it’s not … Continue Reading →

Halo 4 Cortana Series 1 Extended Figure Review

Halo 4 Series 1 Extended Cortana Figure McFarlane 2012

Despite her status as the Master Chief’s partner and co-star of the four main Halo video games, there’s been little Cortana merchandise released over the years. Even the McFarlane Halo figures collection, which is hundreds of figures deep, only included one Cortana figure in it–until now. With the blockbuster Halo 4 release, McFarlane Toys finally deigned to give collectors their first all-new Cortana figure in half a decade. But though this Halo 4 Cortana action figure is an improvement in some ways, in others she’s far worse… Continue Reading →
