NYCC 2014 McFarlane Toys NECA Kotobukiya Halo Photos Report!

As a few of you have noticed, we’re two weeks past New York Comic Con 2014, and I haven’t posted my usual multitude of photos of all the new Halo figures and toys that were on display at the event. No, it’s not that I didn’t attend NYCC 2014–I was there as always. It’s actually that there just wasn’t much in the way of “new” Halo toys to get excited about at the show. But for those who have been waiting, here are my impressions of the Halo figures and collectibles on display at the McFarlane Toys, NECA and Kotobukiya booths…

NYCC 2014 Kotobukiya Panel Halo Master Chief ARTFX+ StatueKotobukiya:

We’ve all seen the gorgeous (but expensive) Halo 4 Kotobukiya Master Chief ARTFX statue by now, so I won’t bother retreading on that particular piece. What you may not have seen, however, is the in-development design for the considerably cheaper Kotobukiya Master Chief ARTFX+ statue.

At the Kotobukiya panel, the company explained that they’re going to make the armor removable on the base statue, and that they’re planning to release armor accessory packs so that collectors will be able to customize the Spartan armor on the Kotobukiya Halo ARTFX+ statues without having to buy a whole new statue. Great idea, Kotobukiya!

The Master Chief ARTFX statue is still available for order and shipping in November 2014, and expect to see the Kotobukiya Master Chief/Spartan ARTFX+ statues follow in the second half of 2015 (just in time for Halo 5!).

Halo NYCC 2014 McFarlane Toys Master Chief StatueMcFarlane Toys:

I’d only had a couple days to practice with my new iPhone 6 camera before New York Comic Con 2014, so the way my photos turned out of the NYCC 2014 McFarlane Toys booth was a disappointment. That might be appropriate, however, because the McFarlane Toys booth at NYCC 2014 was a disappointment in and of itself.

NYCC 2014 McFarlane Toys Halo Master Chief FiguresAlthough McFarlane Toys had finally announced Halo 4 Series 3 with Thorne, Sarah Palmer and Jul ‘Mdama, none of those figures were on display at New York Comic Con 2014. Instead, McFarlane Toys brought the previously-released Halo 4 Master Chief statue and the two McFarlane Halo 2014 Master Chief figures that were released earlier this fall.

1/4 Halo Master Chief Figure NECA NYCC 2014NECA:

NECA brought two Halo items to the 2014 NYCC: one of which we’ve seen loads of times, and one of which I don’t believe has ever been shown publicly before. First up, NECA showed off the NECA Master Chief Motorcycle Helmet that they announced last year.

NECA Halo Master Chief Motorcycle Helmet Unpainted PrototypeThe Halo Master Chief Motorcycle Helmet sculpt looks fantastic, even though it’s still in unpainted form (I kind of like the yellow and grey, though, to be honest). This Halo motorcycle helmet is scheduled for release in Spring 2015, but NECA hasn’t been great about projecting long-term release dates, so Summer 2015 may be more realistic.

NYCC 2014 NECA Master Chief Motorcycle Helmet Spring 2015Next, we’ve got the long-awaited (and long-delayed) 18″ Master Chief figure. This is the largest Master Chief action figure ever made, and also the best-looking one that I’ve ever seen.

NECA NYCC 2014 18" Master Chief Figure

As much as I hate to say it, the NECA Halo Master Chief 18″ figure is looking worlds better than the 1/6th scale Master Chief 3A Toys showed off at SDCC 2014 which is going to cost more than double what the NECA Master Chief does.

Hopefully ThreeA Toys still has time to fix the ThreeA Master Chief before it goes up for order, because NECA has pretty much thrashed them in the over-sized Master Chief department thus far.

New York Comic Con 2014 Halo Master Chief Figure NECAIt was a bit hard to get quality photos of the NECA Master Chief 18″ figure, as he was behind glass, but the figure itself packs in a level of detail and quality that’s going to blow Halo fans away when they see this beast of a Master Chief figure in person.

There are still some pre-orders available for this awesome 18″ Master Chief NECA figure, which is due out within the next month. If you get one Halo figure this year, make it this Master Chief. You won’t regret it.

What do you think about the NECA, Kotobukiya and McFarlane Toys’ Halo collectibles showcased at the 2014 New York Comic Con, Halo collectors? Anything here you’re psyched about, or are these companies’ Master Chief-centric collectibles leaving you cold?

    • Yup! They’ve shown up online and at Walgreens. I doubt most regular chains will get any of them, though.

  1. I think we’ll have more fun collecting Halo figures again once they actually give us characters. It seems like McFarlane is only doing Jul, Palmer and Thorne because those are the only interestingly designed characters in the game right now. And it seems like the Japanese companies (other than Bandai) don’t really know any better than to just do Master Chief.

I love Chief. To me, he is Halo. But after I get this incredible, shelf space stealing NECA, I don’t really want any more Chief figures on my shelf. I already have the PAK, 12″ McFarlane and CEA Chief up. Why can’t I have a Lasky and a Ghek?

At least we’ll have a few Lockes here in a couple years. Maybe Arbiter, too, since he’s rejoining us. NECA 1/4 Arbiter when?

  2. Actually bought my MC Halo 2 at Walgreens but last night I found a whole bunch of the Halo 4 cloaked Chiefs at Target.

    • Interesting, Steve! Where in Target are they stocking the Halo figures? My stores don’t even have a spot for them!
