McFarlane Toys 2013 Halo Micro Ops Series 2 Prototype Photos!

Earlier today I discussed the prototypes of McFarlane Toys’ Halo 4 Series action figures, and now I’m back to talk a little bit about the 2013 Halo Micro Ops Series 2 assortment!

Let’s start first the biggies: the Covenant Watchtower and the UNSC Scorpion. I was really hoping that the Watchtower would be molded in the dark indigo seen in the concept artwork, but also, that does not seem to be the case. The Covenant Watchtower reminds me more than a little bit of the Halo Mega Bloks Anti-Aircraft Gun, which isn’t a bad thing, as I love the AA Gun as a diorama set piece.

The sculpting on the Halo Micro Ops Covenant Watchtower actually looks really nice, and it makes me wish we’ve gotten some larger Covenant building sets in Halo Micro Ops Series 1 instead of the High Ground playsets that essentially killed the boxed Halo Micro Ops assortment. The Covenant Jackal figures are looking good, and I love that they’re not all just the same figure.

I wasn’t looking forward to the Halo Micro Ops Series 2 Scorpion at all after the lackluster Halo Universe Mega Bloks Metal UNSC Scoprion, but the Micro Ops Scoprion looks a lot more true to form (although not necessarily much more fun). The Scorpion will make a nice companion piece for the Watchtower, aimed to blow it to kingdom come.

The big hit from the small-carded Halo Micro Ops series 2 sets for me is what it was always going to be: the UNSC Wolverine. I’m a Halo Wars fanboy, so I had high hopes for the Wolverine, and McFarlane Toys managed to meet my expectations. The Wolverine looks pretty huge, so I’m surprised to see it slotted into the small-carded assortment. On the bright side, that means I get to buy two for the same cost as one Scorpion!

The Gauss Warthog looks nice too, but it’s tough to get excited about another Warthog when we just got two of them in Micro Ops Series 1. It’s also hard to believe this is the second Shield Generator toy in the McFarlane Halo line. I want this set for the Kat figure, but I wish a more diverse vehicle was selected for this set.

I didn’t know what to expect from the figure pack, as the concept art product sheet was just some silhouettes, but that set looks pretty nice. The Grunts will be great for cheap army-building, and my shelf can always use another Noble Squad Jun figure. The Covenant Drop Pods set, however, seems like a bit of a ripoff next to the other sets. I wish you got a little more included with that set.

Complete sets and individual items from Halo Micro Ops Series 2 are available for pre-order online right now.

I have heard some whispers that Halo Micro Ops Series 2 could potentially be cancelled, but if the prototypes are far enough along that McFarlane Toys put them on a product’s packaging, I’d like to think that these great-looking sets will actually see the light of day. What do you think, Halo fans?

Will Halo Micro Ops Series 2 Actually Be Released, or Will the Line be Canceled first?

  1. Unfortunately, I just got notice today that my Halo Micro Ops series 2 pre-orders have been dropped because the manufacturer has cancelled the product without further details. I am really disappointed. I was really looking forward to this release. I hope it wasn’t because of poor sales of the large box sets. In my market (Lansing Michigan), those large units were poorly distributed to the local stores. I had to see and get mine online.

  2. Big Bad, Redford and EE all still have their pre-order pages up. I would expect them to remove them if they have gotten enough confirmation from TMP to cancel a pre-order. Also, with the “package” box-set having the product pix on the back, I doubt they would completely cancel the line. I am desperate to get that Scorpion!!

TMP is dropping the ball completely with their distribution and manufacture times right now, and I am concerned they may not be around much longer.

  3. Micro-ops seemed to have a decent sell-through of everything in my area; sure hope they proceed at very least with series 2, I’m into these in a big way…must have more!!!

  4. Here where I live (Mexico) only Falcons and Banshees seems to have sold well, other sets though…most are still collecting dust on some places.

    • It’s not looking good at all for Halo Micro Ops Series 2. I heard the set was cancelled close to a month ago, but I’ve been holding out for a reprieve until we hear something from McFarlane. If we don’t hear something about the series in the next few weeks, I’m going to have to mark off the line as as good as done. =/

  5. Appears to be dead. None at toy fair, and no mention of it on the sell sheet. Disappointing I really wanted the figure packs and the generator.

  6. has it been confirmed that micro ops are done, or are we still in the dark, if there done why are they still on pre order for some websites

  7. I really hope they arent cancelled, but it isnt looking good. My gf and I are into HO scale model railroading, and we have a large Halo base in it. These vehicles are perfect for HO scale, and we were really hoping to add the tank and gauss hog to the base. We have about 10 regular hogs, 10 mongooses (mongeese?), and 6 falcons, and when we heard what series 2 had in them we were stoked. I thought these sold very well in our area (columbus ohio), and we are really disappointed that they probably wont be releasing them.

  8. In my area (Los Angeles) it totally depended on what type of neighborhood you lived in. The “nicer” the neighborhood the better they sold. I want them to come out pretty badly also. Sooooo looking forward to that Scorpion too. But I won’t be holding my breath.
