McFarlane Halo 5 Series 2 Figures Hi-Res Photos! Buck!

For reasons that I cannot begin to understand (because McFarlane Toys works in unfathomable ways), McFarlane has been eerily silent about figure Halo 5: Guardians figures since the game was released two months ago. And while McFarlane Toys still hasn’t announced anything new, at least they’re finally acknowledging figures that went up for order months ago: the Halo 5 Series 2 figures (including Buck!) have now officially been revealed with hi-res images!

McFarlane Toys Halo 5 Series 2 Figures Lineup Buck and Spartans

While I was hoping that the blockbuster success of the Halo 5: Guardians video game would breathe new life into the long-running McFarlane Toys Halo figure line, it appears the releases are going to be as sparse as we’ve become accustomed to the past few years. Alas.

Today, McFarlane confirmed the release of the four figures that online retailers began taking orders for during the fall. And before anyone asks: No. No new figures or exclusives of any kind were announced beyond what we already knew about. Sigh.

That said, the four figures that we did know about look pretty kickass now that we can official hi-resolution photos of them. All four figures will continue the trend of including two weapons and an exclusive Halo 5 REQ pack.

Halo 5 Series 2 Buck Figure McFarlane ToysWhile we’ve had to wait a bit for Nathan Fillion’s character to appear, the Spartan Buck figure is a thing of beauty.

Buck will come with two weapons: a Hydra missile launcher and a Magnum pistol.

Spartan Helljumper Halo 5 Guardians Series 2 FigureNot wanting to let the only new figure tooling in this wave go to waste, Buck will be repainted into a generic multiplayer blue Spartan Helljumper figure for this series as well.

I really do like the Helljumper armor permutation, so I’ll refrain from bitching about two of the four figures in this series being repaints of each other.

The Spartan Helljumper includes two weapons new to the Halo 5 series: an Energy Sword and an SMG. Nice choices!

Halo 5 Green Spartan Hermes Action Figure McFarlane 2016The final two action figures making up this series are (what else?) more generic multiplayer Spartans. This brings the percentage of Spartans released in the McFarlane Halo 5 Guardians toy line up to, well… 100%. Remember when we got Covenant and Promethan figures? Yeah–those were the days.

On the bright side, the green Hermes Spartan is the first use of the Spartan Hermes armor that originated with the Kelly figure being used for a generic Spartan. The Spartan Hermes figure also gets cool weapons: a Forerunner Boltshot energy pistol and a UNSC Rocket Launcher!

Unfortunately, as nice as it looks, the red Spartan Athlon is now the third use of that mold for a generic Spartan. Bah. The Athlon Spartan will also include a Boltshot and a Hydra Missile Launcher (the best part of the figure, in my opinion).

McFarlane Halo 5 Series 2 Spartan Athlon Red FigureAll four Halo 5 Series 2 McFarlane Toys figures are now available for order online, and are expected to ship out in February 2015 (so you can give the gift of Spartans to the one you love for Valentine’s Day!). I expect Buck to be a hot seller, so you might want to pre-order him especially if you want him (as we all do).

Now that we’ve seen the hi-res photos, are you planning on buying any (or all?) of the McFarlane Toys Series 2 Halo 5 Guardians figures? If you’re sick of Spartans, what would you like to see in Series 3?

  1. Buck is a must! The Helljumper repaint looks cool, and the fact that it comes with a sweet combination of weapons including an Energy Sword makes him another must for me. As for the other two meehhh, not buying them.
Series 3 should include the missing members of both Blue and Osiris, as well as Arbiter or any Covenant or Promethean characters.

  2. Hi Dabid.

With ref to the release date for the series 2 figures, I’ve just found adverts from someone on Amazons UK site claming to have these figures ‘in stock’ at high prices. Do you know if they’ve been released over here early, or is this just a little bit suspect?

  3. Well to be honest I’ll probably pick them all up but I’m only really interested in Buck for being a main character and the Hermes armour as I like the style and now for the Rocket Launcher too. Only now liking the Blue Helljumper for the Sword.
I was hoping there’d be some exclusives or that McFarlane would reveal some more as a surprise but this is just sad. Remember when there was around 8 figures in the standard line, multi-packs and deluxe figures too, and that’d be for 1 series.

For an actual full series I’d have my lineup as Arbiter, Vale, Linda, Storm Elite and a Promethean Soldier with a Deluxe Hunter.
Lets be honest though, either McFarlane isn’t trying or just doesn’t care anymore. Their FB is just splattered with the new building sets that are obviously more of the companies focus and so this opportunity for products on this heavily successful game franchise is going down the pipe. I mean Bucks (ODST) armour is the only new addition. Both the Hermes and Athlon are re-tools and the Helljumper is just a Buck re-tool.

There may be a series 3 if only to plod along with the line but I’m honestly not expecting much. The fact that we’re 2 series in and no sign of Covenant is already off putting.

    • Seriously. I mean what the heck is going on? I’m no economics major, I’m an engineering major, and even I can guess that there is and always has been a huge Halo fanbase compared to walking dead. I mean, WHO EVEN BUYS THOSE BUILD SETS? WTF! I don’t understand who they’re selling to… Do they even know who watches the Walking Dead? Compared to the kinds of people who play Halo, I’m sure Halo would sell better. I’m tired of going to stores and seeing nothing but pegs and pegs of stupid TWD characters. (Yes ok Im biased) but what the heck is going on…

      • Walgreens tends to have a nice amount of Halo toys, I got all my halo 5 toys from there this december [locke, chief, tanaka, kelly, fred] when I couldn’t find any toys at Toys R Us or Gamestop.

  4. Look, knowing McFarlanes recent track record with the Halo figs, there’s a good chance series 3 may not happen.

  5. I used to love this site so much, I depended on it and checked everyday. Now it seems like this is the last site to go to for actual “Halo Toy News” because if you follow certain people on Instagram, you’ll find Halo fig pictures, upcoming news, reviews, and even Halo Xbox merchandise faster there! Check out Alpha117, theredspartanwarrior, halofrontier, and forerunneromega for example

I want to continue supporting this website, but to stay in the game I suggest you find a way to get more active or do something new all together. For starters, Mcfarlane has officially added nice series 2 Halo 5 pics to their website. This is news that I expect to see on a site like this! I believe in you, good luck

    • I’m interested in crafting well-written articles and reporting when there’s news worth reporting. I’ll be at NY Toy Fair next month, and hopefully they’ll be something there that gets me compelled enough to write something.

When there’s something worth writing about, I’ll write. But as it is, MEGA Brands has nothing new worth talking about, the Kotobukiya Halo line seems to be DOA, 3A Toys has basically given up on Halo, and I’m not going to make a new post each time McFarlane Toys puts out a few new photos of their latest Spartan repaints.

      • Oh ok, makes sense. I know Halo’s been trodding along slowly but the high resolution shots of the actual figures and their weapons seemed like a big deal to me. Difference of opinion i suppose. But i remember when there used to be news on that too, perhaps we are all just drawn out and tired of Mcfarlane’s demenour.
