While I was playing through the Halo 4 video game for the very first time (I can’t believe that was way back in 2012 already), there was exactly one point in the entire game when I stopped and exclaimed: “I can’t wait to own this as a Halo Mega Bloks set!” I’m referring, of course, to Halo 4 Missing 8: “Midnight”, the level featuring the Master Chief flying the UNSC Broadsword. Well, MEGA Brands will have made us wait close to two years for it, but the Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Broadsword 97830 set was on display at the New York Toy Fair 2014 and will arrive in stores in Summer 2014!
You might think that the Halo Mega Bloks Scarab was my favorite set shown at the New York Toy Fair 2014 last month–and you might be right. But while the Scarab is on a whole other level from any Halo Mega Bloks set that MEGA Brands has ever produced, there were plenty of other spectacular offerings on display at the 2014 Toy Fair. And chief among them, in my opinion, is the phenomenal Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Broadsword 97830.
I’ve been waiting for a Halo 4 Mega Bloks Broadsword for so long now that my eyes positively lit up when I realized what was in front of me at the MEGA Brands booth.
While the UNSC Broadsword isn’t the sentimental favorite with me in the way that the Halo Wars Flame Warthog Mega Bloks set is, this set is a far more relevant (having an entire level basically built around it for the Halo 4 video game) and spectacular one.
The UNSC Broadsword Mega Bloks set is composed of an even 800 pieces, making it one of the larger UNSC vehicles to be released in the Halo Mega Bloks line.
Given the beautiful build of the Mongoose and spectacular Halo minifigures included (more on those in a minute), I was afraid this set might have a price-point of around $99.99. It doesn’t. Instead, the Mega Bloks Halo 4 UNSC Broadsword 97830 costs a very fair and affordable $69.99–well under 10 cents per piece!
Note that the packaging states that the new Halo Mega Bloks Master Chief figure is super-poseable. While we’ve had a few Halo Mega Bloks Master Chief figures officially released in the last couple years, this will be the first one sporting the new super poseable articulation, making this set even more of a must-buy!
The Cortana figure is obviously not super-articulated, as it’s a repaint of the very rare and highly sought-after Halo Mega Bloks Series 4 Cortana figure from a few years past that was Ultra Rare when it was released. That Cortana was highly under-detailed compared to this one, so I’m excited to get this superior Cortana for my collection, even though I have the original Halo Mega Bloks A.I. figure.
The Didact Halo Mega Bloks figure is absolutely awesome. He features a 100% new sculpt, tons of paint deco and great detailing. The Mega Bloks Halo Didact figure stands around 4″ tall, so he can tower over every other Halo Mega Bloks figure that’s ever been released. In fact, he may be the tallest figure that MEGA Brands has ever created for any Mega Bloks line!

Not counting the magnificent Signature Series Scarab, I consider the Halo Mega Bloks Broadsword 97830 set to be the crown jewel of the Halo Mega Bloks Summer/Fall 2014 assortment. This set is amazing beautiful. I’ve been waiting for a broadsword for awhile. The fact that the Didact is included is an absolute bonus. In the mega bloks line, The Spartans aren’t bigger than the technicians or marines. And the covenant that are supposed to be tremendously larger than UNSC troops are the same in stature as well. The hunters are the only ones that are bigger. It is so good to see the Didact with the size that it has. I was very impressed when I saw it. Good job Mega Bloks. This is a must have for me.

Really with they redid Cortana. The lack of arm articulation just kills that figure for me.
Why can’t anyone make a fully posable Cortana except minimates?
I’m with you on that, I mean it’s not like it really would have cost that much more to make the Cortana figure fully articulated.

Can’t wait to get this. Luckily in Canada we usually get Mega Bloks around the same time as the US.
I don’t understand why so many people want a broadsword set so much. It’s an alright vehicle and it’s cool cannon continuity that the Sabre prototype was developed into it, but the vehicle just doesn’t grab me like so many of the other UNSC ones do for some reason.

Same here, although im more for the other factions like Covenant, Sentinels, and Flood but I’ll snatch up Didact for the Promethean side.

I heard it is a fall 2014 set. I do not believe it will be coming out in summer. I have no clue to when it will come out. I’ve been hearing fall and summer. I would like it to come out in summer.
The Fall 2014/Summer 2014 Halo Mega Bloks sets are the same sets. Because they start shipping from end of July to September 2014, the wave is considered the Summer/Fall assortment.

I didn’t exactly skip them. On the day I attended the MEGA Brands booth at Toy Fair, photography was not allowed of the RC Mantis set. Also, completed prototypes of the Spartan Assault set weren’t on display–just placeholders. So I didn’t have any photos of those particular sets to share.
I think Master chief’s leg armor was assembled incorrectly, just because the way it looks in all the pictures, and compared to other Spartans with super pose-ability it looks a lot different.
