Halo 4 Series 2 Not Sold at Walmart Target or Gamestop Stores

Considering that McFarlane Toys Halo action figure collectors have had to go almost a year without any new Halo 4 figures, some fans have started to develop a bit of a Chicken Little “The Sky Is Falling” complex about McFarlane Toys canceling their Halo 4 toys line as a whole. Well, things aren’t quite that bad, but it’s certainly starting to look like this time the sky really might be falling: long-awaited McFarlane Halo 4 Wave 2 figure wave will not be sold at Target, Walmart or Gamestop stores in the United States…

Halo 4 Series 2 Figures Lineup McFarlane Toys

To the utter astonishment of the Halo collecting world, McFarlane Toys has listed the following retailers as the primary retailers that will be carrying Halo 4 Series 2 this fall:

Amazon
K-Mart
Rite-Aid
Target Canada
Toys ‘R’ Us
Walgreens
Walmart Canada

See anything glaring that’s missing from the list…? I sure do. For those who aren’t quite as sharp-eyed, you’ll notice a couple a major names missing from this list in the form of Gamestop, Walmart (U.S.A.) and Target (U.S.A.). Walmart and Target are among the absolute most crucial chains that need to carry a line in order for it to get the sales necessary to continue, so this is not a reassuring development at all.

Target Stores in the United States cleared out their stock of all their Halo 4 action figures months ago at super discounted prices, with figures like Cortana, Promethean Watcher and Promethean Crawler selling for as low as $2 per figure. Ever since, Target eliminated the Halo McFarlane Toys sections from their toy aisles entirely. We had all assumed that Target would reincorporate Halo figures into their planogram when Halo 4 Series 2 finally arrived, but by all indications, this is not going to happen.

Halo 4 Red Spartan Warrior Powerup Rewards Action FigureIt’s an extra harsh kick in the teeth that neither Gamestop nor Walmart seem to be carrying Halo 4 Series 2, as both Walmart and Gamestop were original supporters of the McFarlane Toys Halo line and have been carrying the figures since the very first Halo 3 Series 1 figures shipped way back in 2008. Gamestop just had an exclusive Red Spartan Warrior Powerup Rewards figure earlier this year, so it’s shocking that they are seemingly abandoning the line so suddenly. The Halo 4 Series 2 action figures are still available for purchase via the Gamestop website, but have been marked as “online only”.

If you’re concerned about not being able to find Halo 4 Series 2 in your area due to this limited distribution, you can find the individual Halo 4 Series 2 figures online for as cheap as $12.99 each.

What do you think about this news, McFarlane Toys Halo collectors? Is the writing on the wall that this could be the final series of Halo McFarlane action figures, or do you think this is just a temporary bump in the road?

Halo 4 Series 2 Not Sold at Walmart Target or Gamestop Stores — 23 Comments

  1. Its not the end of the world. I just found some S2 figs at Walgreens yesterday and so did a few other people at HaloFigureForum. That is a decent amount of stores, and if a company like NECA had the license, then the amount of stores would basically be narrowed down to just Toys r Us alone.

  2. Gamestop has always had the figures in their system, even back to the days of Joyride Halo figures. I would say this article is jumping to conclusions, Gamestop has Series 2 including the Didact in their system and just because McF’s website left Walmart and Target off the list doesn’t mean they won’t be carrying them either. Companies make mistakes and it could simply be a listing error on the website. Personally I say give it a month and we’ll know, these stores are just starting to setup for the holidays and that will bring the truth.

    • I was told at both of my local Gamestops that the Halo 4 Series 2 figures would not be carried in stores, and I’d have to order them online through the Gamestop website. The Gamestop website also has them marked as “online only”, which would corroborate those claims. I’ve purchased my Halo figures from my local Gamestop stores many times before, so I don’t see why they’d be lying to me now, but I suppose stranger things have happened.

  3. Spawn.com is one of the most unreliable websites I’ve ever seen. It wouldn’t suprise me if this was a mistake. Oh well, I’m Canadian so I’ll still be getting mine from Wal-mart.

  4. It’s definitely not the end of the world, but this also definitely isn’t a good sign for the line. I can’t imagine McFarlane will ever get back in with Walmart and/or Target. Though I’m not sure about Gamestop. Hopefully this doesn’t negatively affect sales enough to make this the last wave. I’m still not going to get the entire wave, but I’ll show my support and get all the figures that I’m even half thinking about. Might even get the orange Spartan for custom fodder. Only figure I know I’m not getting is the purple Spartan, so depending on whether or not I’m able to find the Walgreen’s figure, I might end-up getting all the others coming out.

  5. I wish they would still sell them at target but I do live very close to a wall greens and they have Mc with a rail gun so I can live with this change

  6. GameStop hasn’t been a place listed to buy from since Halo: Reach series 6, and you had to click on the individual red recon figure to see it. But, we all know they have carried them all the way up through Halo 4 series 1 wave 2. I would wait until the actual wide release before completely disregarding these chains. Spawn.com has always been terrible with giving information on these figures.

  7. This sucks. Wal-Mart and Target sold them for $10.99 each, which I already felt was expensive. While my little town does have a Walgreens and Rite Aid, they’ve always overcharged as much as $15.99 for Halo figures in the past, not to mention they never have much of a selection in stock.

  8. Disheartening, especially when you compare the retailer list from series 1 with the newest list, almost half the stores are missing. One thing to take note of though, is that a major retail chain in the Midwest, Meijer, to the best of my knowledge has never shown up in the list of available retailers yet has always carried Halo toys. I just cross my fingers and hope for the best.

  9. As of today 9/23 my Gamestop in New Paltz has a couple Halo 4 series two cases behind the counter, according to the manager they will be placing the figures out on the 25th, they aren’t allowed to open them until that date and will be placed in the back when the other employee gets of their break.

I’ll be picking up my pre-ordered Scout and Chief that day, cant wait.

(Not the first time McFarlane has messed up their retail carriers)

    • Also happy to report that ALL of my local GameStop stores will carry series 2 figures, even including the Didact. Hopefully the short list of retailers is just a fluke of sorts.

  10. Hm…disappointing. But, I can’t say I’m surprised. The figures just weren’t selling well in stores. This is just my personal opinion, but I think it’s due to the fact they didn’t release many main characters or in a timely fashion. While the later is clear from the modeling needed to make all the unique armors, most of the line is compromised of multi-player variants. It’d have been nice to get a marine, odst, Sarah Palmer, ect from the Campaign. Earlier lines spaced out the campaign characters, but the lines were also rolled out relatively fast during the run time of the game itself.

  11. Um, GameStop’s website has them listed as In Stock and a GameStop employee said they’ll be getting them in stores…
