It’s only been a week since the McFarlane Halo 4 Series 1 Extended 5-Figure Boxed Set became available and the individual figures showed up at online retailers, but now the single-carded Halo 4 Series 1 Wave 2 figures (Cortana, Watcher, Crawler, Spartan Soldier [Blue]) have also appeared at retail stores! I heard rumblings that some collectors had spotted the wave at their local Gamestop, so I decided to check out the Gamestops nearest to me to confirm the story. I didn’t have to travel far, because the very first Gamestop I visited had a full, untouched tray sitting right in front of the counter…

As these Halo 4 figures are being sold at Gamestop, they have the same variant slim-carded packages as the Halo 4 Series 1 figures (Master Chief, Spartan Warrior [Red], Elite Zealot, and Grunt Storm) that were released at Gamestop stores back in August. In fact, the Master Chief himself is making a return appearance in the Halo 4 Series 1 Extended trays. Perhaps too much of a return, unfortunately…

Yipes. Hope you guys like the Master Chief! While he’s obviously the most popular Halo character (by a landslide), I question packing him so heavily again in the Wave 2 tray, while only putting one of each of the new characters (Cortana, Watcher, and Crawler). On the bright side, the only one of these McFarlane Halo 4 figures that’s not available in a multipack is the blue Spartan Soldier, and there are two of those in the tray, making collectors’ lives just a little bit easier.

For some bizarre reason, the cardbacks for Wave 2 have not been updated from Wave 1, and still feature text on the back of each package declaring “Coming Soon! Cortana, Spartan Soldier, Crawler and Watcher!”. It’s a little weird to buy a Watcher or Crawler figure whose own cardback says they’re not available yet, but I guess these just managed to slip through the cracks of the McFarlane Toys packaging department.

The McFarlane Toys Halo 4 Series 1 Wave 2 figures retail for $12.99 plus tax at Gamestop stores, and there have been sightings of the assortment from across the country during the last few days. If you’re looking for these new Halo 4 toys, it looks like Gamestop is a good place to begin!
