One of the great tragedies of the early days of the Halo Mega Bloks toy line is that the enormous Halo Wars Firebase Mega Bloks set was cancelled, despite a prototype of the Mega Bloks Firebase being created and shown off. Halo fans have been sorrowful over this loss for years–but as revealed at the 2015 Toy Fair, MEGA Brands is going to do their best to make things right! Though it’s undergone a lot of changes since the original model, a Halo Mega Bloks Firebase set is finally coming in summer/fall 2015…

It’s been a long, long road, but after over half a decade of unlikeliness, a Mega Bloks Halo Firebase set is finally on the way! Much like the Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Vulture Gunship that I talked about earlier today, I honestly did not believe that I’d ever live to see the day when MEGA Brands would actually release a Halo UNSC Firebase set. But after its appearance at the New York Toy Fair 2015 last weekend, we now know that such a set is coming our way in half a year’s time!

Now, this is definitely not the set that we saw in prototype form so many years ago–that set was far larger and looked far more accurate to the Halo Wars in-game appearance of a UNSC Firebase–but this is at least a UNSC Fire Base Mega Bloks set. That’s got to count for something, right?

We don’t get nearly as many “playset” Halo sets as I would like the Mega Bloks line, so I’m happy that we’re getting this Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Firebase set–even if it doesn’t really evoke the feel of the Halo Wars Firebase to me. With all of the ladders, walkways, lights and turrets, this looks like a really fun environment for part of my UNSC forces to hang out in.

The way that it was placed so closely to the Fire Base in the MEGA Brands Booth at the 2015 Toy Fair makes me think that the Halo 5 Mega Bloks Banshee vehicle may also be coming as part of the Fire Base set. Could this be a hint that this particular Firebase is based off of Halo 5, rather than Halo Wars…? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

The Halo Mega Bloks 2015 Firebase set includes at least four new Halo figures, and two of them are totally new characters altogether (sort of).

Not only will we getting our first green Covenant Drone Mega Bloks figure with this set, but we’ll be getting an exclusive red Covenant Drone figure with the set as well! We absolutely need to fill our ranks of Drones, and I’m psyched to see that the Firebase will come with two of them. I especially like that snazzy red Drone!

In addition, our first Halo 4 Hunter Mega Bloks figure will also be packaged with the Firebase. The new-style Halo Mega Bloks Hunter figure has a really large and intimidating shield (as it should), and is a nice overall upgrade on the original Hunter figures. And yes, that’s right–you get one Covenant Hunter with this set. If you want a pair, then you’re going to have to buy a second Mega Bloks Halo Firebase.

That’s not the worst thing in the world, however, as the sets can be linked together and combined into one really big Firebase! And who doesn’t want extra Drones too, right?

There is no official piece count or price-point for the Halo Mega Bloks Firebase Summer 2015 set yet, but I’ll post an update when that information is available.
