Halo Mega Bloks Blue Series Rocket Warthog & Banshee Released!

For the Halo Mega Bloks collectors who have to have everything, there’s a new pair of store-exclusive Mega Bloks Halo sets that have just been released. We first saw photos of these sets leaked when the Halo Mega Bloks Last Man Standing pack came out overseas (as they’re featured on the cardback), but now we get our first opportunity to see them up-close and personal on our local store shelves: it’s the Target exclusive Halo Mega Bloks Blue Series Rockethog and Blue Series Covenant Banshee!

Halo Mega Bloks Blue Series Rockethog 97159 Released

Usually I get pretty excited about the yearly Halo Mega Bloks store exclusive sets, but this year’s exclusives have left me a little cold. So while I’ve been wondering when the Blue Series Halo Mega Bloks sets would show up in Target stores, I haven’t exactly been pining away for either set.

The Halo Mega Bloks Blue Series Rockethog 97159 set includes a blue Rocket Warthog, a blue Spartan figure and a blue Air Assault Spartan figure. The Spartan Air Assault figure looks way too similarly colored to the “not”-Kat figure that came with the Halo Mega Bloks UNSC Falcon, and the Spartan is just another generic blue Spartan figure to me. I own all of the other Halo Mega Bloks Rockethogs, but I think this one is going to be a pass for me.

Halo Mega Bloks Blue Series Banshee 97202 ReleasedMeanwhile, the Mega Bloks Halo Blue Series Banshee is the other set in the new Blue Series theme. The best thing about this set is by far the awesome-looking blue Elite Ultra figure included. We’ve had so many Elite Pilot figures over the year that the blue Pilot Elite figure isn’t particularly enticing, and the Blue Covenant Banshee is a bit too close to the normal purple Banshee to make it compelling.

I could see myself picking up the Banshee on clearance to get the Blue Elite Ultra Mega Bloks figure, but that would be it for me from these sets.

Halo Blue Series Rocket Warthog Box Back Target Exclusive Summer 2013The Halo Mega Bloks Blue Series Banshee 97202 and Blue Series Rockethog 97159 are now starting to hit Target stores in the United States, priced respectively at $19.99 and $24.99. If you don’t have a local Target or they don’t have the Blue Series Mega Bloks sets in stock yet, some sellers already have both the Rockethog and Banshee available online for order.

I had expected these sets to be pretty unanimously poorly-received, but I was surprised to hear many fans say that they were intrigued by the prototype photos of the blue Warthog and Banshee sets. Now that they’re out in stores, are you planning on picking up either or both of these Target exclusives?

  1. Still not a fan of the blue series. The only one I would get would be the falcon, as it very much reminds me of some sort of police helicopter. I wish they would make these kind of remakes for like a Sabre, minus the gantry, as sort of like all those customized WW2 warbirds. I would like to have a squadron, but I really don’t need another Gantry or a duplicate Sabre.

  2. though i love the mold/build of this hog, and i do like the blue, i dont see a point to getting this set as it just isnt environment themed at all. Although, the blue spartan IV, is “Not-noble7” lol and that alone will work for me.

  3. i plan on getting the banshee, just because i do not have any yet. the elite ultra and storm(?) rifle just seem like the icing on the cake.

  4. I would buy these even though they’re technically just redos’s of past models. They’re still new sets and it’s not like they’re an exact copy of the original sets. Also, it’s a legitiment excuse/opportunity to get multiples of the same vehicles but with some new twists, without blowing your money on multiples of the exact same set over and over just for a certain part or minifigure.

  5. I picked it up because I don’t have one of the previous ones. It was a fun build.
