I don’t know what rock I was living under, but the first time I saw or heard about Halo Mega Bloks Series 3 96954 was when I walked into Target and the blind bags were literally right in front of me. That was a pretty magical moment, and one of several reasons that Mega Bloks Halo Series 3 is my favorite of the Mystery Pack figure series.

First and foremost, Halo Mega Bloks Series 3 gave us our first individually-packed orange Spartan figure, a Spartan Mark VI. You could previously only get orange Spartans in $25 and up sets, so this was a huge deal for orange-loving army-builders like me. In addition, the cyan CQB is one of my favorite Spartans in the Halo Mega Bloks line to this day–the colors on this figure really pop and he just looks cool wielding the Magnum.

On the Covenant side of the equation, we got two–count ’em, two–Grunts for the price of one! Oh yeah, they’re a little undersized, but at the time these were the only size Halo Mega Bloks Grunts available and getting two in one pack was quite a deal. In addition, the Halo Mega Bloks Series 3 Ultra-Rare figure was the Active Camo Elite Combat figure, which still ranks as my second-favorite Ultra-Rare Halo Hero Packs figure (after Cortana, obviously).
