Toy Fair 2014: Halo Mega Bloks Police Cruiser Photos Preview!

MEGA Brands had all kinds of new stuff to premiere at the New York Toy Fair 2014 last week, and one of the themes that fans were most looking forward to seeing was the fan-chosen New Mombasa Police Department Halo Mega Bloks theme. I had assumed that all of the Halo Mega Bloks NMPD sets would be themed repaints of previously-released vehicles, but MEGA Brands had a real surprise in store for me: the 100% brand-new and all-awesome Halo Mega Bloks Police Cruiser !

As a huge Halo 3: ODST video game fan, I was pretty elated to see the New Mombasa Police Cruiser Halo Mega Bloks set show up in the MEGA Brands showroom at the 2014 Toy Fair. While we see plenty of abandoned/wrecked NMPD Police Cars in the video game, I don’t believe that we ever see an intact and in use Police Cruiser. So it’s great to finally, finally see the New Mombasa Police Cruiser manned and ready to combat the Covenant!

New Mombasa Police Department Police Cruiser Mega Bloks Set Hatch OpenThe NMPD Police Cruiser car doesn’t appear to have any real “action features”, so to speak, but it does have an opening cockpit hatch. And hey, doesn’t looking super sleek and stylish trump any gimmicky features anyway?

Halo Mega Bloks 2014 Brute Chieftain from New Mombasa Police Department Cruiser Set The set includes two new Halo Mega Bloks figures: an NMPD Officer and a new Brute Chieftain. I initially thought this was a Halo 3 styled Black-and-Red Brute Chieftain, but upon reflection, this is very clearly a VISR Mode Brute Chieftain.

New York Toy Fair MEGA Brands NMPD Police Cruiser Set Side ViewThe McFarlane VISR Brute Chieftain was a wildly cool figure that’s still in-demand, so I think MEGA Brands is making a good choice giving us a new Brute Chieftain here. The Brute Chieftain includes a great-looking Gravity Hammer.

Halo Mega Bloks Police Cruiser NMPD Set at New York Toy Fair 2014The Mega Bloks Halo New Mombasa Police Cruiser 97452 set will carry a price-point of $24.99 and contain 235 pieces. That’s ever-so-slightly above my “sweet spot” of 10 cents per piece, but given that this is essentially a 100% all-new set, I have zero complaints about the value of this set. It’s well worth the $25 (at least to me).

Halo Mega Bloks NMPD Police Cruiser Box Packaging at 2014 Toy FairThe Halo Mega Bloks 97452 Police Cruiser is part of the Summer 2014 Halo Mega Bloks wave and will be released in July/August 2014. I’ll be updating with more photos and details on the Halo Mega Bloks 2014 Summer/Fall sets over the next few weeks, and you can ‘Like’ Halo Toy News on Facebook to have news and images sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed.

What do you think of the first totally new vehicle in the Halo Mega Bloks New Mombasa Police Department theme, Halo fans? Is the Mega Bloks Halo Police Cruiser a must-buy for your collection, or are you sticking to more traditional UNSC vehicles?

  1. Definitely getting a bunch of these. I’m super excited to have more material for a cityscape theme. They could even be customized to look like the civilian Genet model!

  2. I think civilian/ city theme is a good idea but 1 complaint could the windshield be ANY bigger??

    • That’s what they look like in the game (only in the game you can’t get in them 🙁 would have been so cool)
