TOY REVIEW: Guilty Spark & Sentinel Action Figures Halo Anniversary Series 2 (McFarlane Toys)
If you asked me what my most-anticipated toy lines of 2012 were, McFarlane Toys’ Halo would be floating around the top of the list. And why not? McFarlane Toys had announced many Halo figures from Halo 3 and Halo Wars that I’d been dreaming of for years for their Halo Anniversary Series 2, including Mickey from the Halo: ODST squad, the Spirit of Fire Spartan Red Team from Halo Wars, and my absolute overall favorite character from the Halo games: Guilty Spark 343. Regrettably, every figure so far from Halo Anniversary Series 2 has disappointed me in some way besides … Continue Reading →
TOY REVIEW: Halo Anniversary Series Spirit of Fire Spartan Red Team Action Figures Three-Pack (McFarlane Toys)
Halo Wars is not only my favorite Halo game, but also my favorite XBox game ever. Saying that will probably get me ostracized from a number of Halo communities, but for the integrity of the this review I had to get that out in the open. I never played a real-time strategy game of any kind in my life until Halo Wars, and I hadn’t expected to enjoy the game at all. Instead, I ended up mesmerized by the game and its micromanagement of firebases, vehicles, and squad units. And of course, I loved the Spartan Red Team: Douglas, Alice, … Continue Reading →
TOY REVIEW: Mickey ODST Action Figure Halo Anniversary Series 2 (McFarlane Toys)
After a lukewarm review of Captain Keyes and highly positive reviews of “The Package” Master Chief and the Halo 2 Spartan Mark VI, I’m back with the fourth of the five figures in Halo Anniversary Series 2: Mickey from Halo: ODST. Considering that the ODST Dutch figure from Halo Anniversary Series 1 literally broke within 30 seconds of me taking it out of the package when I reviewed it last week, I was feeling more than a little wary when I got my ODST Mickey figure in the mail a few days ago. If I wasn’t hellbent on completing my … Continue Reading →
TOY REVIEW: “The Package” Master Chief Action Figure Halo Anniversary Series 2 (McFarlane Toys)
Given the prominence and popularity of the Master Chief, you’d think there’d be Halo Master Chief figures in every assortment. And if McFarlane Toys were Mattel, we certainly would have dozens of crazy Master Chief variants by now and he’d be warming every shelf in America. Instead, McFarlane Toys has released a surprisingly few number of Master Chief action figures, sticking solely to versions of the character that are authentic and make sense. We’ve had battle-damaged Master Chief, Halo 2-style Master Chief, Halo 3 style Master Chief, low-polygon Combat Evolved Master Chief, Active Camo Master Chief… and that’s it. A … Continue Reading →
TOY REVIEW: Captain Jacob Keyes Action Figure Halo Anniversary Series 2 (McFarlane Toys)
Captain Jacob Keyes is pretty near and dear to my heart. No, it’s not because of his appearance in the original Halo video game or its remake (though it’s cool that Captain Keyes is the first character you ever see in Halo)–it’s the Expanded Universe novels’ character development of Captain Keyes that spawned my affection for the character. Captain Keyes is a character Halo collectors have been requesting since McFarlane got the license back in 2008, but Keyes always seemed like an unlikely candidate to be immortalized in plastic. But everything old became new again thanks to the release of … Continue Reading →
TOY REVIEW: Spartan Mark VI Action Figure Halo Anniversary Series 2 (McFarlane Toys)
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t groan when I saw a white Spartan Mark VI announced for Halo Anniversary Series 2. As much as I love Spartans, I have over 100 Halo 3-scaled 5″ Spartans from the good ol’ days of McFarlane Toys 2008-2010. In fact, I have the white Mark VI from the very first series of Halo 3 figures. So after passing on the Halo 3 5″ Recon Spartan in the Anniversary Advance series, I was not exactly gleeful to see a precious slot that could have been given to an Engineer or Prophet taken up … Continue Reading →
